We knew all the songs, we went in the studio, and it was a truckload of fun – we were in and out of the studio in ten days. This album took not much longer – like, three weeks. And most of that was trying to finish off “Embarrassment”! Clive and Alan were like our George Martins, making everything work.

I’ve driven this car from new, which is 7 years’ worth of experience. It’s been extremely reliable and very economical, averaging 64 mpg over that time. Although I’ve never driven it on a really long trip (several hundred miles), I’d be happy to do so; I don’t get the impression that it would be particularly tiring.

It has a very distinctive shape (which I like), drives well (mostly – more of that later) and has a very tight turning circle. Some hills have to be taken in first gear; in these conditions, there is sometimes growling from the engine and much vibration which doesn’t make for a smooth drive. It’s also a bit weird on the motorway, faced with a long slow hill, to have to change gear when doing 70mph.

On the PDP-1, some people had made a game called Star Wars, which is this original thing where you had a trackball, and you could fire at little things. And so, the PDP-1 with this scope on it, was my first exposure to computer games. And in my dorm, Currier House at Harvard, that I revisited a couple of weeks ago, we had a Breakout machine in the basement that we wasted a lot of time on. When we’d play that stuff live, it was very enjoyable, and listening back to it now, it’s still very enjoyable. For one weekend in January, the Northern town of Bury in England becomes the beating heart of IQ and their fans. They gather from across the UK, Europe and further afield for two nights at the modest but delightful venue of The Met in the company of this legendary and charismatic melodic progressive rock band.
